The Lemonade Diet has been around for more than 60 years. Invented by dietician Stanley Burroughs in 1941, it is also known as the “Master Cleanse Diet” and is helpful for cleansing out your system in eliminating toxins, purifying your kidneys and of course conducive to losing weight. The popularity of the Lemonade Diet really took off when Beyonce relied on it to lose 20 pounds for the movie Dreamgirls.
When a person decides to use the Lemonade Diet as a means for losing weight, it is essentially a quick fix. You cannot consume any solid foods or supplements but are allowed to drink six or more servings of lemonade. For the first four to 14 days of the diet, a drink consisting of two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, two tablespoons of grade B organic maple syrup, 1/10th of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 10 ounces of filtered water is consumed. At some point, after the initial four to 14 days of fasting, those following the Lemonade Diet are encouraged to eat healthy solid foods, particularly vegetables and fruits. Vegetable soup is one of the best meals in which to indulge at this point as it is not overly heavy but is hearty and allows the body to ease back into eating regular foods.
The Lemonade Diet is considered an extreme type of diet as you are not eating any solid foods for several days. However, it is often seen as a healthy way to cleanse your body of internal waste and boost your energy. Because of the health risks associated with this type of diet, it is better to rely on it for a shorter amount of time. Exercise is also not recommended with the Lemonade Diet, although this is not surprising due to the lack of food intake.
During the time an individual uses the Lemonade Diet as a means to lose weight, it is normal to experience pangs of hunger, headaches, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea or constipation. When you lose weight on it, it may also not eliminate fat as it will more likely assist you in losing water weight, which should be expected due to its diuretic elements, and even muscle.
